When market participants are allowed to find the price, there will be equilibrium where the quantity demanded by buyers equals the quantity supplied by sellers. If this is the case, why does the government intervene in certain markets by imposing a price floor? Why does the government intervene in certain markets by imposing a price ceiling? Which market participant (the buyer or the seller) will lobby the government to secure passage of a binding price floor? Which one will lobby for a binding price ceiling?

Part 1: Last week we examined the hierarchical organization of neurons in the human visual system that allow us to generate complex visual representations by combining inputs from simpler representations. Another domain of the brain in which we observe this hierarchical organization is the auditory system. In your ears, there exists a spiral-shaped structure called the Cochlea, which is known to contain hair cells that vibrate in response to different pitches (aka frequencies) of sound. These cells then project to the primary auditory cortex (A1), where there is a “tonotopic” organization, meaning that neurons in A1 are arranged in order of their pitch-preference, where neurons that respond to lower pitches are more anterior (towards the front of the brain) and neurons that respond to higher pitches are located more posterior (towards the back of the brain). The primary auditory cortex is located on the upper side of the temporal lobe. We hypothesize that in some subsequent auditory area, there exist cells that respond most strongly to chords (combinations of pitches that are played at the same time). Draw a wiring diagram of a hypothetical cell that encodes the C minor chord, comprised of the notes C, E flat, and G. (Hint: You can assume there are 3 neurons in A1 which encode the frequencies corresponding to C, E flat, and G, respectively). Part 2: Minor chords, which are defined by a particular interval size between the notes, are often characterized as sounding “sad”. In fact, many people can detect a minor chord by this sad sound, even if they are unable to identify which minor chord they are hearing! Now, let’s draw a hierarchical wiring diagram that explains how people are able to identify minor chords, even if they cannot tell which one. Part 3: Using the terms invariance and selectivity, explain how your hierarchical diagram gives rise to the ability to identify minor chords, regardless of the root note.

Jeka Wind Farm project, a government funded project in small rural Easten Cape community of Idutywa, faced significant challenges due to poor communication among project stakeholders, resulting in unprecedented delays, project risks, and cost overruns. The implementation process was further hindered by inadequate Business Process Reengineering (BPR). The lack of effective communication hindered crucial decision-making and hindered the project's progress, leading to extensive delays in construction and the realization of the 100 MW wind farm. This, in turn, significantly escalated project costs and introduced unforeseen risks. Furthermore, the poor BPR implementation compounded the project's difficulties by failing to streamline processes and optimize resource allocation. As a result, the project manager had to address these critical issues to get the Jeka Wind Farm project back on track and ensure its successful completion. 1.1 A starting point for many Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) exercises, is to identify the project stakeholders and their expectations. As the newly appointed project manager for Jeka Wind Farm, examine the role of any FIVE (5) project stakeholders for the Jeka Wind Farm project

When the FASB issues new pronouncements, the implementation date is usually 12 months from the date of issuance, with early implementation encouraged. Karen Weller, the controller, discusses with her financial vice president the need for early implementation of a rule that would result in a fairer presentation of the company's financial condition and earnings. When the financial vice president determines that early implementation of the rule will adversely affect the reported net income for the year, he discourages Weller from implementing the rule until it is required. Which stakeholders might be affected by the decision against early implementation?
