Does our judicial system largely avoid false alarms? That is to say, if the evidence in the case is not strong, is the system biased in such a way that there are a low percentage of false alarms (convicting innocent defendants)? How about misses (letting guilty people go free)? Seek out evidence-based answers to these questions in a general sense. Consider the consequences when either of these scenarios takes place frequently, and discuss the costs. Additionally, find a specific case in which a false alarm or a miss took place, and report on the evidentiary and judicial processes that led to the jury’s decision.
